According to the Harvard Press:
Willard Farm in Harvard, MA, is a legendary, family-owned country landmark revered by locals as the epitome of a classic New England roadside farm stand. Located in the scenic village of Still River, the Willard family has stewarded and farmed this land for hundreds of years.
This abundant stand has always run on the honor system. There are no clerks; customers choose their produce and leave cash in a locked box. Today the stand is still unattended, but in addition to cash, checks or Venmo are also accepted. And in a comment on the times, in a far corner sits a sign, “Smile, You’re On Camera”.

I hope the trust works. I had to look up Venmo. And WP thought I meant Venom
I bet money transfer apps like Venmo can feel like venom to some people if they use it too much! 😉
What a beautiful collage Julie. I love these types of farm markets. Happy Sunday. Allan
Thanks, Allan! Hope you are enjoying your time off!
Beautiful! And pretty amazing that it’s on the honor system. Although I suppose the camera helps keep people honest.
I wanted to ask somebody if they ever had anything stolen, but of course, no one was there to talk to! 😉
Their produce is beautiful!
It look so good, just like you might see on display at a local town fair.
It’s nice to know these kinds of farmstands are still in existence. And it’s wonderful to see the bounty harvested by the gardeners.
Glad you liked it. It had an amazing variety of produce, but I admit I wondered how the 20 dollar bottles of honey were safe on the shelf!
I think there are still a lot of honest people.
A beautiful farm and lovely produce.
Roadside farm stands are popular in summer here. Some may have a young adult on summer job but there are many which work on honour system. Earlier there were cash boxes but now online payment made it even easy.
It makes me happy to think that all over the world, people mostly are honest. Thank you for commenting!
